Read James 3: 2
Depending on your Bible translation, all of us offend, make mistakes, stumble, or get tripped up, in many ways. If a person NEVER fails in what he says, then he or she is perfect in every way.
The Bible gives the answer–the tongue is like a fire and can easily lead us and others astray. What we speak influences all of those around us, for good or ill, and if we control those conversations, according to the Bible, then we can control other things. Those speeches may be forgotten (or not), but when we write, our good and bad words should be considered permanent. Their lasting benefit or damage may mark us and others for a long time.
Answer these questions:
- Explain this common modern proverb: “Make your words sweet; you may have to eat them one day.”
- What is the connection between offensive speech or writing and offensive action?
