This week you are writing a persuasive position essay. One way to think about the Bible is that it is one big position paper. It takes a clear, unequivocal stand as to what is truth. As Romans 15:4 states:
“For everything that was written in the past was written for our learning,
so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the
encouragement they provide we might have hope.”
The biggest premise of Scripture is that Jesus is God’s Son who came to earth to die so we could be set free of Satan’s bondage and be adopted back into the Father’s family. The essence of this position is described in an old hymn written in 1891 by Eliza Hewitt:
I need no other argument, I need no other plea.
It is enough that Jesus died, and that he died for me.
How has the message/position of the Bible been persuasive in your life? How, like an effective persuasive piece of writing, has it compelled you to take action and change in significant ways?
