1 Timothy 6:9-10

Some may view the stock market as a central focus of the love of money, creating all kinds of evils. Having this view tends to create mistrust of the stock market for some Christians. Others see the stock market as a mechanism that causes Christians to wander away from the faith.

Buchanan and Vanberg (1991) argue that the markets are best understood as a creative process, as opposed to a discovery process or allocative process. As a creative process, the stock market can be viewed as a place where money can be invested with an expected investment return. Scripture is replete with verses that help us understand that God expects, even demands in some places, that we should use the available vehicles to grow our resources.

Consider the following as you respond to this devotion:

  • What is your view of the stock market?
  • How can the stock market be a creative process in line with Biblical principles?
