Jeremiah 49:11

This passage provides a picture of the character of God – showing mercy and protecting with tenderness. The cultural norm during the time was to ignore or cast aside orphans and widows, disregarding them. However, God values each individual, regardless of their merit to society. Nothing describes a state of helplessness and dependence more than the condition of orphan children and widows. No persons are more liable to be oppressed and wronged than these. They are regarded as incapable of defending their own rights and are easily victimized. But God, in His great mercy, love, and kindness, demonstrates kindness and compassion. In the same way, as His stewards, heirs, and children, we are to care for others as He would.

This week, as we examine various dynamics specific to the field of long-term care, our focus will be on identifying strengths and weaknesses in the system of providing elder care.

  • Looking at healthcare services from the perspective of Jeremiah 49:11 and based on your personal awareness and knowledge of long-term care in the United States, provide an example of success or failure.
  • Include current event examples that have been in the recent news.
  • As followers of Christ, how do you think that we should respond or act as agents of change?
