Romans 5:8

The greater context of this verse sets up the overwhelming power contained in it. Paul emphasizes the fact that you and I would possibly die for a righteous man but for an unrighteous person we would not dare to die for them. However, Christ dies for sinners as we are all unrighteous before a holy God. Even in the midst of our sinfulness, Christ goes willingly to the cross and provides salvation even though we do not deserve it.

As we begin to connect the dots of human sinfulness to the redemption that is found through Jesus Christ, we should be overwhelmed by the fact that Christ has died for us. Soteriology is often fraught with controversial theological discussion even when it should cause us to humbly cry out with thankfulness to the God who has saved us. Let us be committed to growing in our love for God and for the salvation he so richly provides in the person and work of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Consider the following as you reflect on this week’s devotional:

  • How can we continue to grow in love for Christ in regards to our salvation?
  • How can a church continue to grow in their love for Christ in regards to salvation?
