Proverbs 3:5-8

Trusting in the Lord can be challenging at times, especially when life seems out of control and our standard routine is disrupted, or when traumatic events occur.  It is natural to question and seek to re-balance our sense of “normal” when tragedy strikes or emergencies occur.  Yet, when we trust in God and realize that he is in control of all events and occurrences in our lives, we can trust with our hearts and minds.

Sometimes, we also have to make quick decisions about what to do or how to respond to a critical event.  Proverbs 3:5-8 reminds us that we should trust in the Lord, especially when we do not (or cannot) understand why things are unfolding as they are in our lives.  When we rely on the Lord, we will see that his Word is true and he is faithful to those who seek him.

This week, we will examine the nature of resilience and trauma as it applies to survival psychology and consider how we may help those who struggle when life seems out of control.  Learning to “trust in the Lord” is one key element of building post-traumatic growth and applying resilience to the Christian life when faced with potentially traumatic events.
