The two portions of scripture describe the persecution that arose against the gospel and against those who proclaimed it. chapter 7 tells of the martyrdom of Steven while chapter 8 speaks of the persecution of some of the other disciples of Jesus.
This week’s study will focus on the subject of persecution and martyrdom which was faced by those who preached the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The objective we intend to achieve is to learn of the realities of the Christian life and to be ready when such challenges come our way.
Answer the following questions:
- What lessons do you draw from Steven’s presentation of the word of God?
- In what ways did the persecution work as a springboard for the spread of the gospel?
- What does the last words of Steven in Acts 7: 59-60 tell about the nature and character of the gospel?
- What groups of people or individuals do you think are persecuting the church today?
