Read Deuteronomy 24:15

Deuteronomy is part of the Old Testament Mosaic Law and it describes how the Israelites are to deal with one another in business and personal relationships.  It is clear from the passage that paying workers their wages in a timely fashion is God’s intent for labor and compensation. The understanding of payroll reporting and the laws that govern these procedures provides a great service to employers and employees. Some employers choose to pay their employees “under the table” to save payroll taxes and higher wage costs. This illegal procedure means the government will not receive the income taxes due and Social Security, Medicare, and unemployment insurance will not cover the worker.

Consider this:

  • Why should workers expect to be compensated for their work?
  • Why is it important for employers to pay employees “above board?”
