Proverbs 4:7-10

Good judgment seems quite rare these days.   Watch the news and you will see many stories regarding the peculiar actions of individuals.  These actions, in hindsight, seem so straight forward that it defies logic as to how someone could have such poor judgment and end up in the stated mess. Good judgment is critical to business and personal decision making.  We must take the best information we have available and judge our current circumstances and future possibilities. Proverbs warns us that it is not enough to be wise; we must have good judgment and be able to make appropriate decisions with the given wisdom.

In business, as in life, decision making occurs constantly.  Reactions to external pressures or internal information will force a manager to react.   Often times, these reactions must take place quickly.  How do we go about developing the good judgment needed to make good decisions?   Often times, good judgment results from past experience.  Learning the hard way from our own poor judgments or learning from others’ experiences can help us develop our own good judgment.

We can also ask God for His wisdom and pray for His help in evaluating the situations we are faced with on a daily basis.    He cares about each decision we make.   He wants to be our source of wisdom and discernment to help us obtain good judgment.

God, bless us with the ability to learn from our past experiences, others’ experiences, and grant us discernment in our decision making. Amen
