Luke 11:1-13

Jesus’ disciples were working hard. They became frustrated that their way of praying and engagement with the world wasn’t getting the high level of results that Jesus had.  They were on the verge of burnout. Jesus readily offers to fulfill their request by teaching them to pray to get better results and motivating them with the rewards that would follow.  As we volunteer for His service, contact with the Lord is the best way to overcome burnout. Sometimes we must refocus and become motivated to continue on and “press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:13).  At times, this is the same encouragement volunteers require.

Prepare to share how you have been encouraged spiritually to press on during an especially tough volunteer assignment.
