Colossians 3:23

This particular passage in Paul’s letter to the church in Colosse encouraged bondservants, (either paid workers or slaves), to do their work well. Workers should sincerely try to do their best out of respect for God and are ultimately responsible to Him, rather than a human master or boss. Paul expanded this thought to include masters, encouraging them to go beyond the law and be just and fair. God will judge us according to how we have treated those under us.

As a healthcare administrator, you will have a tremendous opportunity to live this passage. You will report to someone in a higher position of authority, but you will also have employees under your direction. Ultimately, God will judge you as both servant and master over others.

  • What do you think will be the specific challenges of being in this type of mid-level management position?
  • Do you think it will be more difficult to be the boss over others or to be the one under the authority of an owner, corporate executive, or board of directors?
  • What strategies do you plan to use to be successful as a healthcare administrator?
