But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,
and all these things will be added to you.
Matthew 6:33
Jesus spoke these words to His disciples but before He did, he told them not to worry about anything, not what to eat or what to wear, because God would take care of them. So we should be seeking the kingdom of God and his righteousness and then God will take care of the rest.
What does it mean to seek first the kingdom? God is the Lord of everything, regardless of whether or not we recognize it. He is in control and nothing happens without His allowing it. We can recognize this and work along with God to build His kingdom; or we can go our own way, not align ourselves with Him, and face whatever consequences that choice brings. The top priority in our lives should be to seek God first, do what He asks us to do and He will direct our decisions.
Now let’s apply this to business. So far, we have discussed how we are to love others and to show proper respect to the culture and views of others. We also discussed the importance of not being controlled by greed and the necessity of keeping true and accurate reports. If we are seeking God’s kingdom first and trying to do things His way, then our lives and our businesses will have a solid foundation of righteousness.
