Genesis 1: 26-28

In the book of Genesis, God told Adam and Eve to “be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it.”  He gave humans dominion over the earth, and He blessed them.  God designed people to be leaders, and trusted them to care for the earth He created.

We know God has blessed us with the capacity to lead. However, being sinful as we are, and sometimes self-serving and disobedient to the will of God, we often choose a different path.  Human self-will and greed underlie many of the environmental problems we face today. While we as humans were created to lead and rule the earth, we are called to do so as followers of God and Jesus Christ.  We are called and tasked with carrying out His mission for us on earth, rather than willfully using up the earth’s resources.
