Acts 16:26 , Matthew 28:2

We see evidence of earthquakes around us, especially on the news.  There is also confirmation of earthquakes throughout the Bible.  For example, in Acts 16:26 there was an Earthquake that set Paul free from prison and in Matthew 28:2 an earthquake came as the Angel of the Lord descended and rolled away the stone over Jesus’s tomb. These times, the Earth shook for good reasons.

Sometimes we may feel like there is an earthquake in our hearts.   It might be due to something wonderful happening, or it might be due to an overwhelming sadness or grief.  During a time of great trouble, Job says, “Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake” (Job 4:14). Have you had a time in your life that you felt like you were shaken to your very core?  Did you cry out like Job asking, “What is my strength, that I should hope?” (Job 5:11).   Psalm 18:2 tells us that God is our strength.

  • Think about a time you were shaken and found your strength in Jesus.
  • Share a scripture that helped give you strength during that time.
