In popular culture, “church” can be characterized by any number of attributes: ceremonial garments, charismatic preaching, lively music, to name a few. However, the religion that is acknowledged by God is the one that assists orphans and widows in distress. In current society, the orphan sometimes looks like an adolescent who is distressed due to current traumatic living situations Widows look a lot like elderly people who have been neglected or forgotten by their adult children. Scripture talks not only about looking after widows and orphans but also states in Leviticus 19:32 that we need to stand up in their presence and show them respect.
