Job 12:7-8

Today’s world seems far removed from that of the Old Testament.  The widespread use of technology as a part of everyday life focuses our attention on things that supposedly make our lives easier.

In reality, they entangle us in endless webs of busyness and hurry.  People take their laptops along on vacation trips, sleep with cell phones on the nightstand, and stay connected to workplaces through handheld devices.

When we allow technology to rule our lives, we also give up important personal contacts.  When we permit cell phones and laptops to engage us “24/7,” we lose sight of the beauty and peace of nature that lies just outside our doors.  It is so easy to get enmeshed in the complications of life, at the expense of living out our mission on earth as God intended us to do.  Maybe we even stop hearing the voice of God, as it is drowned out by the endless hum of activity.

What technological leashes entangle you today?  How do these leashes separate you from God, nature, friends, and family?
