One of this week’s topics is calculating the break-even point of a new product or process. The break-even point is the point at which a business covers the cost of starting a new venture. Just beyond that break-even point, the business begins to make money. It is the way businesses count the costs involved in starting something new.
In our devotional reading, Jesus is speaking to a large crowd who thinks they want to be his disciples and he is saying, “count the costs.” Just as businesses should never begin something new without counting the costs, before we commit our lives to Christ, we need to consider what it may cost us.
Those of us who live in the United States have been very blessed to practice our Christian beliefs freely and without much worry about what it may cost. That is not the case in other parts of the world and may not be the case here forever. Even in our blessed situation, there are costs that come with serving Christ; however, the profits (or blessings) beyond the break-even point are indescribable.
- Have you counted the cost of your faith in Christ?
- Do you see the blessings now that you have committed to Him?
