Romans 13:6-8 , I Corinthians 12:6-11 ,I Corinthians 12:28-30

Between these three lists, Paul lists several different kinds of gifting: prophesying, serving, teaching, encouraging, contributing, leadership, mercy, wisdom, faith, healing, miracles, prophesy (repeated from Romans), discernment, tongues, interpretation of tongues.

Volumes have been written about these gifts; which ones are/are not for today, which ones are head, heart or hand, which ones are for the church, which ones are for the world, and on and on. Here are some questions to think about in this course, knowing you will study spiritual gifts in later courses.

  • Have you ever heard of these gifts before, and if so, where?
  • What were you taught about them in the above context?
  • Which one(s) do you think the Lord may have given you, and why?
  • Are there certain ones you want, and if so, why?
  • Are there certain ones you would rather not have, and if so, why?
  • Are there certain ones you think no longer serve a purpose in modern times, and if so, why?
  • Do certain gifts match certain personalities, and if so, why?

Here in Week Four we will be looking at the gifts God has given you to bring to Kingdom work. You will do spiritual gifts inventory, take it, and then process those findings. You will also be asked to look at yourself through the eyes of others who know you well, asking how they see you using your gift set for the Kingdom, and then reporting their remarks.
