In week 1 of our course on Romans, our goal is to understand the problem of sin, particularly as it relates to the context of Romans. Understanding the problem of sin is a prerequisite for understanding the gospel about Jesus Christ. For instance, we have all heard it said, “You must understand the bad news before you can understand the good news.
With respect to the problem of sin in the book of Romans, we see the theme of the “wrath of God” first introduced in Romans 1:18. For our devotional this week, we want to consider and reflect on this important, yet difficult theme. Where in the biblical storyline is this theme of the “wrath of God” first introduced? Find some Old Testament references and reflect on why it is important for us as Christians to understand the category of the “wrath of God.”
