Exodus 2:2-15 , Exodus 3:1-21

This week we will examine our development physically, cognitively, and socially. Which of these aspects is most important is a topic for debate; but all play a part in what and who we become. Surrounding this development are the hands of God as He works through us and our experiences to fashion us into the people He wants us to be.

Included in that development is what we take in through our senses and how we interpret that information. God has not made us in a “cookie cutter” way to be all the same, but has given each of us our own uniqueness, and that is very much affected by our interpretation of life’s events.

These passages reflect how God worked in Moses’ life to meet the needs of the moment and to prepare him for the leader he became. Moses’ life was divided into three 40-year periods: his upbringing in the court of Pharaoh; his shepherding in the desert; and finally his leading of the Israelites to Canaan. This week you will apply this concept of how God prepares us to your own lives; however, begin with considering the following questions:

  • How did the time in Pharaoh’s court and the time in the desert prepare Moses for his leading of the Israelites to Canaan (cf. Heb. 11:24-28)?
  • In Exodus 3:11-21, Moses tries to convince God to “find someone else” for this daunting task.
  • From God’s responses to Moses, what do we learn about God and how He deals with us in our lives?

Think about times when you have said “find someone else” to do it. Did you feel God’s leading in saying this or were you thinking about yourself and your time?
