Genesis 33:9

When is enough actually enough?  Think about that. Think about the things you may want. You may own a car you like but what you really want is a BMW750i.  Not only do you want that, but in black and pearl. Maybe you want a Jeep for the summer so you feel the wind in your hair. Or maybe it is that new Fendi or Louis Vuitton purse. Perhaps it is an outdoor kitchen with a stainless steel grill and warming drawer. Anytime we turn on the TV, we are bombarded with images and announcements that create in us a desire for more. Left unchecked, we succumb to those desires and wallets, bank accounts, kid’s college fund, and our retirements are left empty. The interesting thing about this biblical story is that Jacob had stolen everything from his brother. Jacob thought Esau wanted to kill him, so Jacob put on this huge show of wealth to his brother. Then when Esau finally made it to Jacob, he asked his brother, “what’s the show for?”  Jacob said he wanted Esau to take them so he could find favor with him. Esau said he was content and Jacob could keep his wealth. Esau acted in a Godly way. He could have chosen differently, but he chose to be content.

Esau also planned for his future, even after Jacob had stolen his birthright. Esau did not let that set him back. He still went out and became a wealthy individual. Wealth is not the goal. Wealth reports on what you did with what you were given.
