Like the plan of attack for every major successful offensive, this one had been planned in detail.  The personnel had to be in place.  The political structures were influenced.  The weapons and tactics were assigned.  Commands were given.  The battle was started.

Whether it was King David, Alexander the Great, Hannibal, Genghis Khan, Rommel, Napoléon, Washington, U.S. Grant, Patton, Hitler, or any of the other great military leaders, they were all driven individuals who pushed their causes.  Some will live in infamy and some as heroes in our collective memories.  However, all used their martial skills to accomplish their goals.

No invasion was complete without those skills of war for these military leaders.

Yet one historical invasion was different than all the others.  It came with great expectation for those who were watching.  It had great acclaim from the leaders involved in the invasion.  The bloodshed involved in this invasion was breathtaking.  The amount of innocent lives that were lost was unparalleled.  The strategy used was unbelievable.  The opposing side never expected that a victory could happen with this strategy.

. . .and yet it was the greatest invasion of our history with the greatest amount of victory.  No other invasion has saved so many lives in the long run nor put right what had gone wrong more completely.

The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined.

Mt 4:16

This invasion, the most successful of all time, changed everything.  A strategy of sending an infinite Being to a finite frame, not to conquer through killing and typical war, but to relinquish control to the plan of the Father.  The very Son of God chose to humble himself to invade a fallen world and bridge the gap between heaven and earth.

That heralded day of invasion came not through the expected war leaders of the day.  It came through a quiet birth, in a lowly town, seemingly by chance to the casual observer.  Instead, it was the plan of the Father to save His creation.

And with this Christmas wish is missed
The point I could convey
If only I could find the words to say to let You know
How much You’ve touched my life because

Here is where You’re finding me
In the exact same place as New Year’s Eve
And from the lack of my persistency
We’re less than half as close as I wanna be

And the first time that You opened Your eyes
Did You realize that You would be my Savior?
And the first breath that left Your lips
Did You know that it would change this world forever?

And the first time that You opened Your eyes
Did You realize that You would be my Savior?
And the first breath that left Your lips
Did You know that it would change this world forever?

And so this Christmas I’ll compare
The things I’ve felt in prior years
To what this midnight made so clear
That You have come to meet me here

To look back and think that
This Baby would one day save me
And the hope that, that You give
That You were born so I might really live
To look back and think that
This Baby will one day save me

The first time that You opened Your eyes
Did You realize that You would be my Savior?
And the first breath that left Your lips
Did You know that it would change this world forever?

And the first time that You opened Your eyes
Did You realize that You would be my Savior?
And the first breath that left Your lips
Did You know that it would change this world forever?

And I, I celebrate the day that You were born to die
So I could one day pray for You to save my life
Pray for You to save my life
Pray for You to save my life

Relient K – I Celebrate the Day
