As the curtain rises on the biblical story and the lights flicker on, the Creator is at center stage. “In the beginning, God . . . .” Before anything else ever was, He is. The rest of the chapter emphasizes His words and His actions. “And God said . . . . And God made . . . . And God blessed . . . . ” The Bible is a story that starts with God.
As the story of Scripture unfolds, God continues to be the focus. Some humans will be blessed with significant supporting roles, but the spotlight will never really move from Him. From creation to redemption to the new creation still to come, the point of the whole Bible is to reveal God and His ways to the world so that He will get the glory He deserves.
In this course, you will learn about how God works to transform His people. The process of spiritual formation can be an exciting journey that leads to many fulfilling changes in your life. But you must never forget that God’s primary purpose in transforming you is to bring glory to Himself. He will “equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever” (Hebrews 13:21). As you rightly order your own life, God must remain at center stage.
Why do you think it is important to remember that your spiritual formation is ultimately about the glory of God?
What might go wrong if you made it about yourself?
