This past weekend, I attended the Men’s Advance (we’re guys. . .we don’t retreat! We advance!) Weekend. A group of us have been planning it for eight or nine months. We had times of extended praise and worship and Joe McGee (www.joemcgeeministries.com) as a speaker. It turned out really well and I received a number of comments from those attending as to how much they appreciated the weekend. Times of renewal are so important to your relationship with God. Whether it is an organized event like we had this weekend or a more personal getaway that lets you refresh, I encourage you to get those times of focus on your relationship with God.
Yesterday when I got back and today when I went to the store, I was struck at the way I reacted towards what culture is pushing my direction. What all of us see at the checkout counter at WalMart is what hit me the most: the magazine articles. I’ve never been one to pick them up and read them and I usually avoid even looking at the covers. More than in previous times, I had a culture shock reaction to them. It wasn’t that I was feeling judgmental towards that being propagated from the checkout line. Rather, it was the feeling of “this is not for you. . .you’re set apart for Me” type of feeling. As I am reading through Deuteronomy and I Corinthians, this was a great, practical application of those scriptures to be focused on living out God’s holiness in my life.
Purify my heart
(Eugene Greco, “Purify My Heart”)
Cleanse me Lord I pray
Remove from me all that is
Standing in the way
Purify my heart
Cleanse me Lord I pray
Remove from me all that is
Standing in the way
Of Your Love
These lyrics rolled through my mind as I thought of what I want from my relationship with God. I want to be cleansed before Him. I want an undivided heart that has nothing between it and a Holy God of the Universe.
I invite you to seek the Father anew with me.
