Isaiah 58

Teaching writing can be a challenge and requires teachers to have a broad spectrum of skills and strategiesThe NWREL 6+1 Traits of writing provide the broad range of strategies teachers need to effectively teach students to write with clarity and focus.  As teachers we seek guidance to find effective tools and systems that give us a strong framework to draw from to enhance student learning.

Before each writing lesson, take a moment to pray for guidance. Ask for wisdom in structuring your lesson plans and discernment in addressing individual needs. We should have an inclusive classroom environment where students feel valued and encouraged. We must recognize and celebrate each student’s unique writing voice, thus fostering a sense of belonging. Another important strategy is for us to stay open to new teaching methodologies and resources. Attend workshops, engage in professional development, and collaborate with fellow educators to enhance your skills.

God is always there to lead, guide and direct us. As teachers we have faith that when in need of good and reliable ways to teach our students, we will find the good and reliable programs that we can draw upon to optimize student learning.

Apply this biblical reassurance to answer the following questions.

  • Think of a time that you were at a loss to communicate a good way to complete an assignment or project.  How can your faith “strengthen your frame”?
  • God’s blessings are like a spring whose “waters never fail”.  How can these blessings carry you forward when you feel you are falling short of the skills needed in the classroom?
