Nehemiah 1:4; 2:7-8; 11-20

When we manage and organize ministries we often want to jump right in to the “doing” of ministry. But what should come before “doing?” In the book of Nehemiah, we read about Nehemiah, the cupbearer to the king, who is told that the walls of Jerusalem are in ruins. Instead of jumping right in to fix the problem, we read in chapter 1:4 that Nehemiah “mourned and fasted and prayed.” In chapter 2:7-8, we read that Nehemiah tells the king that he would like to be sent to rebuild the walls and asks for specific assistance. In chapter 2:11-20, what does Nehemiah do in preparation to rebuild the walls?

What ministry management principles do you see in all these passages that can be applied to your ministry now and/or in the future?
