Jesus was traveling with His disciples when He brought up the subject of His identity with them. He wanted to know who people thought He was; in other words, what the crowds were saying about His identity. After receiving various answers, He went to the heart of the matter and asked them who they (the disciples) thought He was. Peter answered by saying, “You are the Messiah.”
This is quite a statement. Peter claims that Jesus is the Son of God, the One prophesied in the Old Testament, the One who would come to restore Israel as the great nation it once was.
Now let’s make it personal. Who do you (as a student taking this course) say that He is? Is He the Son of God, a good man who said wise things, or just another person in history who claimed to be far more than he actually was? Our first forum this week will examine this critical foundational question.
Consider the thoughts above as you write your first devotional response.
