Acts 2

Acts 2 is known for being the chapter that sees the launching of the church. In this text, we see several concepts that historically describe the founding of the church. It also points to the things for which a healthy church today needs to be committed. Among those things are the work of the Holy Spirit, preaching the Scriptures, a call to repentance and faith, baptism, and serving the members of the congregation. All of these are historical markers of what the first century church was doing.

As we begin to think about the life of the local church, it’s worth evaluating what our churches are committed to doing. Far too often, the church can drift off mission into doing good things, but not necessarily the right things, that the local church is called to do. As leaders, it is important  that we help to lead our churches to be committed to doing only the things that God calls us to do, rather than pursuing our own personal favorite projects.

After careful consideration, please answer the following questions.

  •  What are some areas where you see the church fulfilling its mission?
  • What are some possible distractions that churches face that can pull them away from their mission?
