2 Samuel 11:1-2; Ephesians 6:10-20
If one was to ask any missionary about spiritual warfare, especially one who is serving in a place where the Gospel does NOT have a stronghold, they would surely have some stories to tell. The fact is that Peter accurately described the enemy of the Church as a lion roaming about, seeking to devour God’s servants (1 Peter 5:8). Satan would love nothing more than to destroy the family of the missionary or church as they seek to build God’s Kingdom.
Spiritual warfare is real. We are fighting a spiritual war with an enemy whose primary tactic is deception. But the enemy can be defeated through the spiritual resources that God has given us: His word, His Spirit, His armor, and prayer. God has given us victory through all these things. In Him, we are more than conquerors. We do not need to worry because God is with us.
Consider the following questions:
- What is so significant about the phrase “But David remained at Jerusalem”?
- In your life experience, when are you most likely to be prone to, or susceptible to spiritual warfare and the snares of the enemy?
- In Ephesians 6:10-20, how do you see the Holy Trinity at work?
- What comfort/encouragement should that give us in knowing that all three Persons of the Godhead are at work to help us fight our spiritual battles?
