Read Luke 16:2
This parable from Jesus describes a manager who was accused of acting unwisely with his boss’ money. Realizing that he was going to lose his job, he set out to build alliances with people he had dealt with in order to gain favor and have some friends in his time of need. The “master” commended the manager for his shrewdness. Shrewdness is still looked upon as an admirable trait today.
Jesus was making the point that Christians should act shrewdly with the kingdom of God, not to be shady businesspeople. We should use our wealth and influence for the Kingdom so that we are rewarded in Heaven.
Consider this:
- What should our motivations be in business transactions?
- In accounting, why is it important for us to build reputations of honesty and integrity?
