Read I Kings 19:1-8
Every leader will sooner or later find himself or herself exhausted. Perhaps they have engaged in conflict. Maybe they have neglected to get rest. Whatever the case, spiritual caregivers have a long history of neglecting the fundamentals that aid in self-care.
Think about these questions.
- What role did fear play in Elijah’s life in the story above?
- Why do you suppose he left his servant, and wanted to be alone?
- Why did he want to die?
- What was the Lord’s response?
- What did that response do for Elijah?
Then reflect on the fact that God wants us to get self-care and that includes you. Every story, every principle in Scripture is given for our example and this 1 Kings 19 passage is no exception. How does obeying scriptural principles relate to getting good self-care? Are you getting good self-care? If not, what is preventing you?
