The Lord will supply what you need as you serve. Paul commends the Philippian church for their consistent support of his ministry, highlighting their selflessness and commitment to the work of the Gospel. The Philippians had gone beyond their own immediate concerns, offering material and spiritual assistance to Paul in his time of need. Their actions exemplify the qualities of servant leadership and sacrificial giving which demonstrated their deep commitment to the Gospel and their desire to serve others.
As leaders in education, you are learning to be servant leaders to others as you set up systems of assessment and accountability that will impact students for the better.. You may often have to go over and above your time commitment to finish a task, but your sacrificial giving is part of being a servant leader. However, you do not have to do that in your own strength. God will supply for you in a way that allows you to keep our minds focused on Him. Focusing on Him actually empowers our creativity and work ethic for the task at hand. This honors God and also impacts student achievement. As we depend on God, He supplies what we need to fulfill the roles He has given us. This dependence on God brings overwhelming joy, peace and contentment, even in the midst of the hard work and challenges of leadership.
As you approach the end of this course, the lessons from Philippians 4:14-23 are particularly relevant. The work you are doing—learning to understand and implement effective assessment practices, developing systems of accountability, and striving for student achievement—requires both dedication and perseverance. But we are also reminded that this service is sustained by God’s provision, not our own strength. As you continue in your leadership journey, remember that God will supply your needs as you focus on serving Him and others. The peace and contentment that comes from trusting in His provision will equip you to lead with grace and perseverance, even in the midst of challenges, not by your own power, but through Christ who strengthens you. You can do this!
After careful reflection, please respond to these questions:
- Write a brief paper outlining your plan for applying Philippians 4 in practice.
- In what ways can creating and using good assessment practices help us share in student growth and needs?
- Why is it important to assess your own spiritual journey and contribution to others?
