Sin affects, and has infected, us all. As pastor Conrad Mbewe said regarding sin: “The disease is on the inside.” We stand condemned due to the sin nature which was passed down from Adam. If we are honest about the fallen condition of our humanity, we know that we are in serious trouble. Unless someone, who does not suffer from the same fallen condition, makes a way for us, we will die in our trespasses and sins. This fact must be made clear to all people before it is eternally too late.
We are living in days where people want to downplay the sinfulness of man. People will tell us in conversation that they are not really ‘that bad of a person’. They think that they are essentially good, and that even though they may do some bad things, in the end they will be alright because a loving God exists. The simple reality is that we live and minister in a culture that has no concept of imputed sin.
After careful reflection, please answer the following questions.
- Why is it essential for people to understand that their sin is inherited from Adam?
- How do people in your ministry try to escape the reality of indwelling sin?
- How would a stronger understanding of indwelling sin help churches today?
