Ephesians 5:1-2, 8 , John 8:31-32
Maintenance of behavior change is the continuation of a behavior change when all or part of the intervention responsible for the behavior change have faded or terminated. These scriptures are fitting for understanding how maintenance of behavior change works. For instance, after Jesus had ascended to heaven, Paul reminds the Ephesians of their life in the past (sometimes darkness) but assures them of their transformation into the light of the Lord. He continues by stressing that they should continue to walk as children of the light. In addition, Jesus exhorts followers who have believed on Him to continue believing so that they can reap the blessings of knowing the truth.
- Do you believe Paul’s statement “walk as children of light” was a behavior required to be maintained even after Jesus died and ascended back to the Father?
- What did Jesus mean when he said: “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed?” Does this statement from Jesus suggest a maintenance of behavior?
