This week we will be covering anxiety and depression, which are two very common mental disorders.  Our devotional this week will focus on depression, as felt by one of the most famous prophets, Elijah.

Read the story of Elijah and the 400 prophets of Baal recorded in I Kings 18:16-45.  Following this in Chapter 19, we find how Elijah responded to this confrontation:

Elijah was afraid and ran for his life.  When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day’s journey into the desert.  He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die.  “I have had enough, Lord,” he said.  “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”  Then he lay down under the tree and fell asleep.
I Kings 19:3-5a

Following this, the Lord comforted him with food and water and Elijah was able to go on.

Reflect on a time in your life when you said or wanted to say, “I have had enough, Lord.”  What or who did the Lord use to help you through this time
