Society is currently in the midst of a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) craze. No matter what you want to do, you can look on YouTube and find step-by-step instructions to help you complete your project. Online retail has added to the DIY trend by offering consumers all kinds of ready to assemble products that they will deliver in flat boxes with detailed instructions on assembly.
In business, you will get “flat boxes” containing many tiny items to sort out and resolve. You may search that box and find no little piece of paper giving you instructions for how to handle the contents. But you do have rules and regulations, state and federal statutes, and prior cases that have ruled on the same issues from which to draw your wisdom for a solution to your issue. Obviously, you would want to use that information.
As Christians, we have the same help in the Word of God. God has provided us with all the guidance we could ever need and has written it out in step-by-step instructions called the Bible. He used ordinary people involved in ordinary situations just like the ones we face today, and showed exactly how the situation should be handled. If you have never looked at His Manual, His Word, then you may have trouble figuring out the instructions, or even finding them. The idea is to be so familiar with it that finding the answers is just a flip of the page away. God will reveal to you how He expects you to handle the everyday situations of your life. Your job is to immerse yourself in the Word.
