Read Genesis 2:1-4

Read Philippians 4:19

From the very beginning, everything necessary for mankind to survive, and even thrive was right here. It obviously took a very long time for us to fully appreciate and maximize those resources. Frankly, we are still learning to fully appreciate and wisely utilize these resources. A lot of short-term thinking over the centuries has led to some amazing short-term solutions, yet with some equally amazing long-term, unintended consequences. Even then, mankind has done a pretty incredible job discovering and utilizing God’s provision.

As you can see, resource management has been a challenge for mankind from the very beginning. As hard as we try, none of us will do it perfectly. We will create a lot of waste seeking the proverbial gold nugget of the moment, but minimizing that waste and still finding the gold is what resource management is all about. Who knows, we may even discover a great idea for using the waste that’s more valuable that the gold!

The point is, the verse in Philippians tells us God has promised to provide every resource we need, but that didn’t necessarily mean he’d spoon feed us while we sat in a high chair, so what does it mean? How much is “on God” versus how much is “on us”. What are some of those lines of distinction?
