Saul and David were both anointed by God to be king over Israel. Both men sinned. Both men were confronted by a prophet of God to repent from their sins. That is where the similarities end. One man tried to justify his actions by blaming others as the reason for his sinful choices. One man was brokenhearted and grieved over the consequences of his choices. One man continued to live a depressive life—never finding any peace for the decision that he made. David saw what happened to Saul as the “evil spirit” came on Saul (1 Samuel 16:23) and he did not want the same thing in his life. Sin, especially unconfessed sin, in our life may often lead to depression as it causes a rift in our relationship with God, the true source of joy. Repentance is the first step in having the joy restored.
How important is it to keep short accounts with God in your life?
