One of the key elements to the Theology of God and the Trinity is how Jesus Christ the Son fits into the equation.  Most heresies and cults form over this one very crucial issue: Who is Christ? Some of the most common answers have been that He was a wise man, a good teacher or even a Prophet.   But some heresies have brought Him farther along, but just not placing Him as God.  One movement we already discussed in the early church was led by Arias, but there are many others today including the Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Colossians 1:13-20

Reflect on the Scripture you just read and consider these questions.

  • Who does this passage say that Christ is?
  • How do you explain Christ being called the “Firstborn”?
  • What Godly abilities are attributed to Christ in this passage?
  • How would you answer a person who says that Jesus is only a god?  How would you answer someone who says Jesus is only a good teacher?
