Internal and external analyses are a vital part of any business strategy. They are also important in terms of our Christian life.   The Bible is quick to warn us to examine our own motives. Jesus talks about the sinful desires of the heart, and the book of Hebrews tells us that only the Word of God can help us truly understand how our hearts are controlled by evil intentions.  The book of Proverbs warns that the wicked man walks in darkness, and therefore does not understand what is really going on externally.   Proverbs says the same is true of the fool and the sluggard.  We are told to make plans based upon wise counsel, and by also seeking out God for wisdom in decision-making.

This process could be uncomfortable, because examining and acknowledging sinful tendencies is never an enjoyable process.  But because we know that God showed us mercy through Christ, we can be sure that the Holy Spirit will always be gentle and restorative in restoring us to God and making the right decisions.  If we can’t do this type of analysis on a personal level, will we be able to do it with a business?

How do you justify the idea that businesses are in business to make a profit as compared to God’s expectation of Christians operating with pure motives?
