Matthew 28:18-20

There are five “great commission” passages in the New Testament (Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 16:15-18, Luke 24:45-49, John 20:21-23, Acts 1:8). Collectively they paint a rich, vivid portrait of our purpose and task as the church, one only accomplished supernaturally. All five passages highlight our worldwide evangelistic calling, but Matthew 28:19-20 goes on to describe how those who come to Christ must be equipped to grow into strong disciples ready to take their place in carrying out Jesus’ mission, a process often called discipleship.

But how is discipleship actually carried out? Despite all the books and programs available, many churches struggle to establish discipleship training programs, or find it hard to get busy congregants to attend such programs. Our study in Transformational Bible Teaching will be a quest to discover how we can most biblically and organically help men and women of God (including ourselves) grow ever deeper in knowing Christ and making Him known.
