Amos 3:2

If you have ever watched Spiderman, you may remember the line, “With great power comes great responsibility!”. Our verse for today has a similar thought that can be phrased like this: “With great privilege comes great responsibility.” Israel was held to a higher standard than all of the nations around them because they were the only ones who had Jehovah God as their God. They had the privilege of God delivering them out of Egypt, providing for them in the wilderness, and protecting them from their enemies as they traveled. But time and again, they are accused (and rightfully so) of spiritual adultery by worshiping idols and “gods” who cannot speak, hear, or help them. They forfeited their privileges and lost sight of their responsibility to be a light to the nations.

As believers in the US today, we are blessed with tremendous privileges: easy access to the Word of God, freedom to share about Jesus, freedom to worship without fear, and so many more! Let’s not forfeit those privileges and lose sight of our responsibility to be a light to our world!

What practical ways can believers today stay focused on balancing privilege with responsibility?
