Read Genesis 39:1-22
We sometimes think that if we do what is right, all will be well. In the short term, this is often not the case. The story above is proof positive that sometimes, we pay a dear price for maintaining our integrity.
Joseph finds himself sold into slavery by his brothers. Soon afterward, he winds up in a comfortable position as servant to a government official. The official’s wife attempted to seduce Joseph, who rejected her advances. We can see where that landed him.
Consider these questions as you study the story of Joseph and Potiphar’s wife:
- How is it that Joseph was able to prosper, almost from the very beginning of his time in Egypt?
- When Joseph rejected Potiphar’s wife’s advances, he was concerned about sinning against at least two people. Who were they?
- What do you notice about her persistence in pursuing Joseph, and in turn, Satan’s persistence against us?
- Joseph did what was right, and yet Potiphar’s wife lied, which landed Joseph in jail. What do you learn from this?
- As you craft your devotional, keep in mind that even in prison, Joseph prospered. What does this teach you about integrity?
