Psalm 127

It can be challenging to understand some organizational cultures, but it can be even more challenging to work for an organization when you feel deep inside that something is just not right.  This requires some self-reflection, including a closer look at personal values and beliefs as they compare with that of the organization.

In Psalm 127, Solomon says “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builder’s labor is in vain.  Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.”   This is a powerful statement when you think about people spending countless hours at work, focused on the next promotion and profits while going home at night feeling restless and unhappy.

A great organizational culture is one built upon moral and ethical standards with solid shared values, mutual respect and a focus on the value of each member.

As you reflect upon your own work life, what is the relevance of this Scripture from Psalms?
