Genesis 1:26-27

Here we find the ending of the creation narrative and an interesting declaration about the way that he has created mankind. God declares that men and women are created in the image of God. This is striking to read since to this point nothing else in creation has been given such a distinctive idea. That God places such an important identifying marker as being made in the image of God declares that mankind has worth, dignity, and value.

As we begin our time reflecting on the theological intricacies of salvation, sin, and man, it is imperative that we begin with a proper understanding of mankind and what makes them worthy of saving. Being created in the image of God declares that all of humanity has worth, dignity, and value regardless of who they are. For God to declare this about humanity should impact the way in which we think about ministering to people.

  • Why is it important for Christians to maintain a proper perspective on being made in the image of God?
  • What relevance does humanity being created as male and female play into being created in the image of God?
  • How should the image of God in humanity affect the way in which we minister to people?
