We begin with a few points regarding the text.
- Jesus was traveling to somewhere else as He was passing through Jericho, stopping to visit with Zacchaeus. Would we, late to our next appointment, speeding along the highway while talking on our cell phone, intentionally stop and make contact with a passerby?
- Jesus was also intentional about inviting Himself to the home of someone who would cause a fair amount of talk. Was Jesus concerned about the murmurings of the crowd? Why or why not?
- Jesus made an immediate and obvious impact on Zacchaeus. How are believers in our culture impacting those with whom they come in contact on a regular basis?
This week we want to see a shift from evangelism as “doing” to evangelism as “being.” We will examine biblical examples of evangelism as a lifestyle and how they can apply to our own marketplace ministry. Also, we will examine current cultural forces and barriers that will give birth to innovative ways to model the gospel of Christ.
Consider the following questions.
- What were the things that set Zacchaeus apart from others?
- How did the crowd react to Jesus going to Zacchaeus’ home?
- How did Zacchaeus’ encounter with Christ impact his life?
