I Timothy 4:12

Many times, people believe that maturity has to do with a person’s age. They think that if you are older it automatically means that you are more mature. Although your age can indicate maturity, age does not always mean that the person is mature.  You can find many young people that demonstrate maturity way beyond their age.

What makes someone mature?  True maturity is found in what you say and do. That is what today’s Bible verse is stressing. It tells you to set an example in these areas. You do not have to wait until you are older, you can start now. Let your speech, action, and love reflect Jesus and maturity. Be an example to those around you of what the love of Jesus really looks like! It is not necessary to be old to be mature. When you focus on others, you are displaying maturity.

To see how mature you are you can start by examining yourself. When you have conversations, what do you talk about? Are you asking others about themselves? Or are you always “me” centered? Are you living in a way that displays maturity? Do your actions show that you are thinking of others and living Christ-like?

For this week’s scripture response, describe some things you have done that show that you are demonstrating maturity.  Address the following:

  • What are some areas of life that you need to work on to become more mature?
  • Name those situations you need to work on and make a plan of how you might improve in those situations.
  • What can you do to build your maturity?
