Matthew 16:13-20

It is easy to forget that the church of Jesus Christ is the institution promised would be successful in the world. We watch as the world turns around us in chaos but all the while we have confidence that Christ’s words are true. The church is our confidence for cultural change because it always operates off of the premise that soul change is a necessary requirement of successful cultural change. When we are tempted to throw in the towel, we need to look to the Scriptures with hope that the church is an agent of force in this world.

As you lead at your local church this week, spend some time praying and thanking the Lord for his constant provision for you and the church that you serve. It is because of his promises that we have confidence for the next Lord’s day. Remind the people that you serve that the church is the great hope of the world and to put their hope in Christ and his promises about the church.

  • Why do you think that we lose confidence in the church and its mission?
  • What are some practical steps that the leaders of the church can do to instill confidence in their members about the church?
