Read: Exodus 4:10-12
Public speaking can be a daunting task. The fear of stumbling over words, forgetting important points, or not being understood can cause even the most confident individuals to feel anxious. Moses, one of the greatest leaders in the Bible, understood this fear all too well. In Exodus 4:10-12, we see Moses expressing his deep insecurity about speaking in public. He acknowledges his limitations and hesitations, saying he is “slow of speech and tongue.” But God’s response is both comforting and empowering: He reminds Moses that it is He who created human beings and gave them their abilities, and He promises to help Moses speak and teach him what to say.
This exchange between Moses and God reveals an essential truth for all of us, especially when faced with the challenge of public speaking: our confidence should not rest in our abilities but in God’s power and provision. If God has called us to speak, He will equip us. God reassured Moses that He would equip him with the words to say and the ability to communicate effectively. It is alright to acknowledge our fears, and trust in God’s power. We do our part by preparing and praying and then we focus on the message instead of ourselves. God will give us wisdom, clarity, and peace as we speak.
Just as God promised to be with Moses, He promises to be with us when we speak. We may feel inadequate, but God is more than sufficient to bridge the gap between our weaknesses and the task at hand. Whether it’s delivering a speech, sharing a testimony, or leading a meeting, we can trust that God will always be with us to lead, guide and deliver.
