Paul has the expectation that Timothy will develop people behind him to serve as leaders in the church. He is to take the instruction that he has received from Paul and other faithful teachers and entrust it to those he is training up in the church. The expectation is that every leader trains leaders behind him to be able to either replace the main leader, complement the leader, or be sent out to lead others. However, the instruction that Timothy is to pass on is the teaching from Paul and others. It is theological instruction that will be passed on.
As we think about all that you have learned in the course of completing your degree it is time to celebrate but at some level, it is also time to go to work. You have been entrusted with teaching from a variety of professors but rooted in the Scripture. You must begin to think through how you will pass this along to faithful people in the church that you serve and begin that process now.
- How can you practically identify people to entrust and train up behind you?
- How will you practically take the people you identified and train them up?
